Prologue: Awaken Despair
[[Start Game|Beginning Chamber]]
[[Options]]"Drip... Drip... Drip... Drip..."
Groaning slightly, you awaken to the rhythmic sound of dripping water. You don't recognize where you are and quickly bring yourself to a sitting position.
Looking around, you take in your surroundings and spot a wooden doorway to your left and what appears to be the entrance to a dark tunnel to your right. You look down and notice plain gray clothes instead of... Odd. You don't seem to recall what your previous clothes looked like. Inspecting your clothing, you notice a small ID tag stuck to your chest and a letter tucked into a pocket underneath it.

[[Back|Title Screen]]You pull on your shirt to get a better look at the ID tag and begin to read:
'MC1111'
Is that your prison number? What does the 'MC' mean? What are you even doing here in the first place? Thoughts swirl in your mind with no answers, better to move on for now.
[[Back|Beginning Chamber]]You take the letter from the small pocket and rip it open. Looking at the contents, you begin to read:
"Hello, and thank you for participating in this experiment. Because you agreed to participate, you understand that your life is forfeit and that we are not liable for any physical or psychological damage that may be caused to you. As to the experiment itself, your goal is to leave. Very simple, just find the exit and leave. We will be monitoring your progress so don't worry if you die, just act naturally."
"Is this some kind of joke?" You ask yourself as you turn away from the note and look at your options.
[[Go through the door]]
[[Go through the tunnel]]
[[Back|Beginning Chamber]]This page is for learning what your character is capable of doing in order to progress, and the different mechanics in game.
To progress through the game you control the actions of your character, leading you down different paths that lead to various endings. Some endings lead to the death of your character and force you to restart while others will lead you down more paths that will bring you to the end goal of the game, to get out of the experiment your character is subject to.
Options that your character can do show up in blue. Each one is tied to a mechanic in the game. Below are the list of mechanics:
"Run"
"Open door"
"Close door"
"Lock door"
"Inspect"
In order to make sure that you don't accidentally make a mistake, a question will pop up based on the path you have taken to make sure you are certain on going down that path. Clicking yes progresses you to either an ending or another path while clicking no takes you back to the previous selection
[[Back|Options]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|Chamber Two]]
[[No|letter]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|Tunnel Ending]]
[[No|letter]]Traveling through the tunnel, you begin to lose track of where you are until you are surrounded by darkness. Unable to see where you are going, or where you came from for that matter, you stumble and hear the clatter of bones.
As you stumble, the creatures within the tunnel awaken. Animalistic shrieks echo throughout the tunnel as the creatures begin bounding towards you, struggling to see what you fell on and struggling even more to untangle yourself from it.
With a feeling of dread from hearing the shrieks, you struggle more to get away from the skeleton clinging onto you and succeed... Only to then be tackled to the concrete once more by a shadow. Trying to focus on its form, you look in shock as the creature seems to disappear before suddenly seeing two orange eyes before the creature devours you.
[[Game Over|Game Over (Tunnel Ending)]]You enter a second chamber and inspect your surroundings.
Before you are two metal doors and a red marked sign. The doors are on your left and right, with each one having a handle and what appears to be a button to lock or unlock a door with an icon above in green. The icon simply says "open." Unsure of what to do you begin weighing your options.
[[Enter Right Door]]
[[Approach the Sign]]
[[Enter Left Door]]**Game Over**
[[Restart?|Beginning Chamber]]
[[Quit|Title Screen]]As you approach the sign, you realize that the red you thought you saw was, in reality, dried blood splattered on some of the words. Despite some difficulty, you believe you can make out some of them.
"Blank is blank way"
With the blood splattered on the sign you realize that you have lost the only hint from whoever put you here. Now you must guess which one is the correct door.
[[Step Back|Chamber Two]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|The Burning Furnace]]
[[No|Chamber Two]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|Chamber Three]]
[[No|Chamber Two]]Hoping to pass by the large figure unnoticed, you dash for the open doorway. However, as you do a searing pain goes through your chest as you look down to see a hook piercing through your chest. Blood splatters onto your face as you are pulled back by an immense force.
A large, hairy humanoid hand grabs you by the shoulder and spins you around to face the beast. Upon closer inspection, you realize the head wasn't disfigured at all. It was simply the head of a beast. The beast growls at you before dragging you across the floor.
Struggle as you may, the grip of the beast was unbreakable. It brought you to an open furnace and despite your struggling, lifts you up casually and tosses you inside the fiery pit. As you scream in pain upon landing in the burning coals with the tongues of fire licking at your clothes, setting them alight with your skin, the beast closes the furnace door and locks it to prevent your escape. Continuing to scream, the fire and smoke soon suffocate you, leaving a corpse to burn to ashes.
[[Game Over|Game Over (Fiery Death End)]]Going through this door, a bright light blinds you temporarily as you smile believing you've found the exit. As your vision returns, you blink and look in horror as what lays before you is anything but the exit.
Bodies hang from chains that dangle from the ceiling, some seem to be moving... As if the chained were still breathing. A row of human sized furnaces lay side by side. Several of them were open, the fire's licking tongue striking out occasionally. The closed furnaces, obviously also burning, showed signs of life, or consumption of it as one or two furnaces let out screams of agony at regular intervals.
You hear a growl from the right and turn to see where it came from. Staring in shock, you watch as a large figure walks along the furnace line and pokes at the coals within. Its head appears... disfigured, or even covered. Noticable in its hand, is a large meat hook. Large enough for a human body. To the figure's left, there is a sign labeled "Exit" and an open door underneath.
Thinking over your options, you consider running for the exit before the figure can spot you, hopefully you can get away before being attacked by it. On the other hand, you can simply turn back and lock the door, putting the scene before you to a small pocket of nopes in your mind.
[[Lock Door|Chamber Two (After Locked)]]
[[Run for the Exit|Fiery Death End]]Entering past this doorway, you groan in frustration as you wind up in yet another chamber. With two more doors and another sign. Everything in the exact same spot as the room you just left as if you simply went through a portal or something. Stepping into the room, you begin to notice the differences between the two chambers.
First off, the sign isn't splattered in someone's blood, so you can actually read it this time. That's a good start. Secondly, both doors look electronic. Each one is made of metal, just like the one you just opened, but unlike the other one a colored light is placed above the door. The lights, green and red, offer nothing of note aside from a thought of what they may signify. Perhaps green meant good and red meant bad like is normal. Hopefully that was it.
[[Approach Green Door]]
[[Approach Sign]]
[[Approach Red Door]]"Both of these doors leads to an exit, but a malicious entity lies in wait along the way. We cannot choose for you, we can only tell you to guess."
Signed 'The Administrators'
Administrators? Who are they? You wonder this before considering the message they gave. A malicious entity lies in wait somewhere along one of these paths, but they can't say which path this entity is on leaving the guesswork up to you. Well this sucks.
[[Step Back|Chamber Three]]This door has no significant markings on it, the green light above makes the door annoying to look at for long periods of time.
[[Enter the Green Door?]]
[[Step Back|Chamber Three]]This door has no significant markings on it, the red light above makes the door look as if it is coated in blood.
[[Enter the Red Door?]]
[[Step Back|Chamber Three]]Are you sure?

[[No|Approach Red Door]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|Final Chamber]]
[[No|Approach Green Door]]Upon entering a concrete chamber, the door closes behind you. Before you is a metal doorway with a handprint on the wall next to it. As you wonder why there is only one door, a hidden PA system screeches to life, harming your ears in the process.
"Testing..."
"Testing..."
"Hello? Hello, and welcome MC1111. You may be wondering why we're forcing you to do all of this. Well wonder some more 'cause I'm not authorized to tell you! Hahaha... So jokes aside let's get on topic. Your job, now that you've reached this stage of testing, is to reach the end of this test code named "The Labyrinth." It's like the ancient Greek one you know? Built by King Minos or whatever and home of the Minosaur I think it was called. Anyways, you no longer have to fear death while after this point. Anytime you die, a data copy of yourself will be born in the next room to carry on the tests. Don't worry, it won't copy everything you did so you can always continue to proceed down different routes. Well, now that the information has been given, time to Cross the Rubicon! Toodaloo. Announcer off!"
You think what an "odd piece of shit" Announcer was and contemplate what to do with this new information.
[[Inspect Handprint and Door]]
[[Put Hand on Handprint]]The handprint appears to have been used often, but by whom? The door, made of metal, appears solid when pushed on and cold to the touch. There is no handle to open or close the door. You infer then, that the door is only capable of being opened by placing your hand on the handprint.
[[Put Hand on Handprint]]Are you sure?
[[Yes|Scanning]]
[[No|Final Chamber]]Upon placing your hand on the indicated spot, the door clicks and swings open to allow you in. Once you enter, the door closes behind you, keeping you from going back. A flashing green light turns on as the air hisses.
"Decontamination in Progress... Please Hold. Repeat. Decontamination in Progress... Please Hold."
The light turns red as the air continues hissing. Abruptly, steam blasts out from unknown crevices around you, spraying you and around you before stopping as quickly as they started. A door before you opens up as the light turns green once more. Taking in a breath and preparing yourself for the journey ahead, you step forward into the next room.
[["Welcome to The Labyrinth, please enjoy your stay"|The Prologue's End]]You have reached The Prologue's End.
After this point, because this game has no system in effect that counts the number of times you die, please keep a record of that for your later use. It is vital that you know this as you progress through the game.
Now that you've reached The Prologue's End, the game shall take a turn for a more graphicly inclined version. Those who cannot handle very graphic content, should not play the next episode, or any related episode after that.
I would like to thank my friend for helping me create this game episode, which started off as nothing but a grammatically bad demo.
I would also like to thank the many people that have helped me playtest this and have offered their feedback as to what I, the game maker, can do to improve it.
This is merely the end of a prologue. As a good man once said, all stories have a beginning, middle, and end. This is merely the end of an idea and beginning of the story. Thank you for playing, and I hope you enjoyed Prologue: Awaken Despair.
